The recent passing of Associated Press sports reporter Howard Fendrich has been felt throughout the sports world.
Fendrich, who covered tennis and the Olympics — among many sports — for the AP, died May 21 in Baltimore after learning in February he had cancer.
Colleague Eddie Pells shared his story later that day. According to Pells’ research, Fendrich won two Grimsley Awards, for best overall body of work among AP sports writers, and multiple deadline-writing honors.
As part of Fendrich’s obituary, the family asked for donations to either the APSE Foundation and the Adas Israel congregation.
The outpouring has been touching, and substantial. The foundation and its board are currently discussing how to properly honor Fendrich.
Donations can be continue to be made in Fendrich’s honor at the APSE Foundation website: https://apsefoundation.org/support/
